Davenport, Florida is one of the most underrated places to book a vacation rental. It is probably the least known area/region for booking a vacation rental mainly because many communities in the area are new.
In a previous post, we enumerated our top four vacation home picks in Davenport. Although Kissimmee, Florida is an excellent place for a vacation rental, one must consider Davenport as well. Now let’s look at Davenport in detail, and why the area is such a great place to vacation.
First and foremost, Davenport and the surrounding Polk County region are very close to Disney World. Davenport rentals are almost synonymous with the term “Disney vacation homes” because they are so close to the back gates of the Disney parks. Davenport vacation homes are just a short drive up the quiet corridor of State Toll Road 529 to Disney. Generally only the locals use Toll 529, as it’s a little known way to get inside the park and avoid most of the traffic for a Disney vacation.
Additionally, one of things that comes with a Davenport rental is typically space, selection and quality. Many of the newer subdivisions are located in and around Polk County. This often means that the underlying quality of the community is good, and that the vacation villa is in excellent shape. Typically this means spacious common areas for your kids to roam and play in while you are “home” from the parks. Finally, there are excellent recreational amenities in the area. There are several English Pubs to frequent in the area as well as many top quality golf courses in Polk County. Highlands Reserve Golf Club and Southern Dunes Golf Club are examples of good courses in the area for intermediate to advanced golfers.
All in all, Davenport, Florida is a great place to vacation. Its relative distance to the Disney World theme parks, quality and selection of resort communities, and the amenities in the area including golf courses make it an ideal spot for any vacation.

Disney sales reps have been building buzz locally about their upcoming opening of the “American Idol” Experience™ at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Judges will determine among up to 400 audition contestants daily who will make the final cut of 21 VIP star performers. Prospective auditioners may sign-up online(www.disneyworld.com/idol) or show-up locally.
There will purportedly be 7 shows of 3 performers who will sing in front of a live Orlando Disney audience. The daily individual audiences will select a winning performer from each of the seven shows who will then perform at the end of the day to determine the daily winner. Each daily winner will then have a serious opportunity to make the real American Idol® show.

Regardless of what side of the political aisle you are on, we can all agree that Obama’s win is historic. America needs to feel good again about its special place in the world and Obama, at least temporarily, gives us that feeling.
His ascension to the presidency should also have a positive impact on how those in other nations perceive the country as well. According to news reports, Illinois is already banking on the Obama buzz to boost tourism to the state and to the city of Chicago as well.

It’s no secret that since 9/11, international travel to the United States has fallen about 10 million visitors per year according to the Travel Industry Council. However, this has mainly been due to customs travel issues. As far as Orlando is concerned, about 3.5 million visitors to the area are international travelers, with half of those being European travelers. International travelers account for 17% of local economic impacts.
Our thought is that it will be now much easier to export American culture due to the star status and “International Panache” that Obama embodies. He will make it cool to be American again after several record years of low international perception of the United States. Interestingly, Obama also has small children in his home, and it will the first time since Kennedy that this is the case. With Disney being a premier pop icon of American culture which captures the imagination of millions of children, we can infer that international travel to the area might get a boost from his Presidency. Obama is also a “feel good” story which is what the Disney “brand” is all about. The two would be a nice match to boost tourism in the area. Local theme parks and vacation home owners would certainly get their fair share of this traffic. Let’s hope that is the case.
