Although there is plenty to do in Orlando and this list is growing, there are some day trips from Orlando Florida worth exploring. From Flagler Beach to St. Pete Beach and all points in between, find a place on your holiday itinerary for one or more of these great fun day trips in Central Florida.

Our favorite day trips from Orlando (and their respective driving distance) include:

Celebration Florida (Local) – The quaint charming town of Celebration is right at your back door if you are staying in a Kissimmee vacation rental. Outstanding independently owned restaurants in Celebration include Columbia (Cuban cuisine), Cafe D’ Antonio (Italian), Shannon’s of Celebration (Irish), Thai Thani (Thai) and Seito Sushi (Japanese). There are also some great small shoppes lining Front Street near the main square.

Celebration Florida – Day Trip

Mount Dora Florida (30 miles) – Mount Dora is a small town just north of downtown Orlando. The town is famous for the many antique shops that dot the downtown area. Our favorite restaurants in the downtown shopping area include The Frog and Monkey Pub, Garden Gate Tea Room and the Copacabana Cuban Cafe.

St. Petersburg Florida (75 miles) – St. Pete Beach is the smaller little city in Tampa’s shadow. Our favorite area of St. Pete is the Pass  A Grille area is rarely crowded and parking is ample. The Hurricane Seafood Restaurant is in the heart of Pass A Grille which offers Authentic Florida cuisine. Walk around the area and you’ll love the ol’ Florida homes and eclectic neighborhood shops. The Salvador Dali museum is also just minutes away from the beach retail area.

Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park (90 miles) – This is one of many great Florida state parks with an abundance of wildlife. The natural habitat is truly exceptional including manatees, black bears, bobcats, alligators, otters and even crocodiles. Kids will love the nature education center which is billed as a hands-on experience. Florida park rangers also provide great seminars on the habitat in and around the park.

St. Augustine Florida (105 miles) –  St. Augustine is a bit of a road trip from Orlando, but the time is well worth it. Tour the old Fort Matanzas and the 20 acre Castillo de San Marcos National monument area. Learn about this fascinating 17th century fortification occupied under several national flags. There is a little bit of over commercialization on the main strip, but one can pick through the stores and find some interesting goods. Favorite restaurants here include The Floridian, Scarlett O’Hara’s and Columbia Restaurant (owned by the same family as the one in Celebration). While you are in St. Augustine it is also worthwhile to stop in New Smyrna’s downtown area as well. Several art shops line the downtown walking area of New Smyrna.
