Star Wars Park At Disney Orlando

The Star Wars brand is a lasting phenomenon. Although the last sequel was released over 10 years ago (Revenge of the Sith), Star Wars is spawning new attractions and bringing in parkgoers to this day.

At the recent Disney D23 Expo, a blockbuster announcement was made that the new Disney World Star Wars Land will be breaking ground later in the decade at Hollywood Studios®. There will actually be dual Star War Lands at both Disney World and Disneyland in California with that same timeline. These will be the Disney company’s biggest theme park expansions ever at 14 acres each.

At the expo, CEO Robert Iger also indicated that a pre-park attraction called “Star Wars Launch Bay” will be coming to Disney parks later this year. Launch Bay will be more of an “interactive” experience while the Disney World Star Wars Land will be considered much larger and more “immersive”. Along with Launch Bay, existing Star Wars events along with new ones to complement the new Disney World Star Wars Land will be showcased.

Along those lines, most of our readers are aware of “Star Wars” Weekends which have continued to be a big draw for the Disney Parks. A new seasonal event starting in 2016 called “Season of the Force” will round out some of the Disney Star Wars entertainment options. At Tomorrowland within Walt Disney World®, parkgoers can travel the galaxy and enjoy Hyperspace Mountain.

So what is Hyperspace Mountain? According to Disney, the old Space Mountain attraction will be redesigned so that guests can enjoin an X-wing Star Wars Starfighter in battle. The park will also fold in a fireworks show at Hyperspace Mountain to fully delight Star Wars fans during the experience.

When is the Opening Date for Disney World Star Wars Land?

Although Disney has been non-committal on an opening date thus far, insiders indicate that the Disney World Star Wars Land opening date could be as soon as 2019 and as far out as 2023.

If we assume that the Disney Star Wars Land will take 4 years to build and if the project starts in 2017, the most likely date is the summer of 2021. You heard it here first!

One of the additional features of the Disney World Star Wars Land is flying the light freighter aircraft – the Millennium Falcon attractions. The Millennium Falcon was flown by Han Solo and Chewbacca and appeared in at least 4 Star Wars episodes.

What Else Can Be Expected for Disney World Star Wars Land?

In addition to flying the Millennium Falcon, Disney guests are promised a ride with the backdrop of the soon to be released sequel, The Force Awakens.

The Star Wars Land itself promises characters fully in costume and an immersive experience within the attraction. Guests are to be transported to a whole new land and will watch first hand the climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance.

Disney promises to add new details as time goes by with an expected construction start date of 2017.
