After lots of publicity, new Disney World attractions have been opened for Frozen Ever After and Soarin’ Around the World which are both at Epcot®. Both were completed in June 2016 just in time for the summer season.
Frozen Ever After opened in the Norway pavilion and Soarin’ Around the World at Epcot’s Future World. Frozen received some of the highest media attention and guest interest for any of the new Disney World attractions in the last several years. This is all part of Disney’s overall plan to reinvest in some of the older attractions and reinvigorate potential new park favorites.
What Do the Reviews Indicate About Soarin’ Around the World and Frozen Ever After?
Admittedly Disney has been in for a rough ride of sorts with Frozen and the reviews have been mixed. Although reviews of the Frozen ride have been very positive, the same isn’t true of wait times and operations of the Frozen ride itself. According to recent park guests and the Orlando Weekly Magazine, Frozen wait times have been at times in excess of 4 hours, and the ride has intermittently been out of service. Some attribute the rough start to the lack of a soft opening, but Disney is sure to get the problems worked out quickly. In fairness, the ride has only been open less than 2 weeks from the time of this blog post.
Soarin’ Around the World has opened smoothly, and the reviews have been good. For those that did not enjoy the original Soarin’ California attraction, the new virtual hang-gliding ride features 13 international locales for the 5 minute virtual movie. Wait times at the 3 theatres have also been minimal for most parkgoers. By all accounts, it’s well worth one (or multiple) visits to queue for this as a new Disney World attraction.
All of these new initiatives are an effort to boost growth in Epcot attendance. According to the Themed Entertainment Association, Epcot has the lowest park attendance growth in a 10 year period of time compared to Hollywood Studios, Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom. Hopefully these new Disney World attractions will bring some magic in terms of new park visitors.
