Kissimmee Air Museum

Unsure of what to do in Kissimmee on a rainy day or looking for an inexpensive educational attraction near the theme parks? The Kissimmee Air Museum fits the bill.  This warbird museum features many military aviation aircraft along with visual exhibits plus documenting the technical side of the aviation equipment. There is also a nice aviation oriented gift shop attached to the lobby.

The Kissimmee Air Museum is centrally tucked off of Irlo Bronson Memorial Highway (US 192) at 233 N. Hoagland Boulevard in Kissimmee Florida. The sister attraction at the museum is Warbird Adventures, Inc., a warbirds flight operations service for those who want to experience the thrill of being in one of these vintage planes firsthand. This would certainly be one of our top high adrenaline things to do and enjoy in Kissimmee.

The exhibits at this aviation museum are tucked into 1 of 2 main hangars that encompass most of the facility. It should take you about 1 1/2 – 2 hours to review the display exhibits and beautiful aircraft. One first passes into the heart of the museum which is a visual display of written educational boards covering the history of warbirds and their evolution. This chronologically occurs approximately from the late 1930’s up to the modern era. As a whole, the museum does an excellent job of covering warbirds from an international perspective as well. Information on Japanese, Polish, British,  American and other national warbird history is contained in several of the exhibits.

In the hangers of the Kissimmee Air Museum, you and your family will enjoy hands-on review:

  • Stearman N2S-5 – Primarily used as the starter training aircraft for the US Navy pilots
  • Stearman PT-13 – This Boeing manufactured warbird was used as a training craft for the US Air Force

There are also many other vintage and modern warbirds to see. If you or your family are a little bit more technically oriented, there are also engines on display:

  • Rolls Royce Griffon S7 Piston Engine – These went into early production in the early 1940’s and were at the Battle of Britain. This is on display at the center.
  • De Havilland Gipsy Queen – British workhorse engine used by the Royal Air Force until the early 1950’s.
