Orlando is a great place for spring break due to the diversity of activities, attractions and restaurants locally. Let’s look at some of the newest and freshest ideas for a spectacular spring break in Orlando Florida.

Spring Break on Sand Lake

For evidence of the culinary diversity Orlando offers, look no further than the shops and restaurants on Sand Lake Road. Often referred to as “restaurant row”, this 1 to 2 mile stretch of Sand Lake is Orlando’s golden mile for dining. From Roy’s to Big Fin, from Ruth Chris’ to Morton’s and Fleming’s, and from Rocco’s Tacos to Cantina Laredo, a plethora of outstanding restaurants await your dining pleasure.

The newest concept to join the Sand Lake line-up is Rocco’s Tacos. The restaurant is an upscale taqueria boasting 225 different tequilas, excellent food and 2 bars for your social and liquid refreshment. To our knowledge, the restaurant has opened with good reviews.

Unique Entertainment at the Parks

Short of being in Las Vegas or in a city where Cirque de Soleil is touring, you are lucky enough to be in Orlando where one can see La Nouba. This is Cirque de Soleil’s modernist rendition of an adult circus with acrobats, enigmatic characters and eclectic music. La Nouba is in Disney World’s Pleasure Island – Downtown Disney West Side. The tickets, as with other world class entertainment, are not cheap in price, but we can assure you the acrobatic acts are awesome.

In the same category as unique, but this time at SeaWorld® Orlando, Viva la Musica is a special new series of latin cultural events at the park. These will run on Saturday afternoons between April 13th and May 4th at the Bayside Stadium and feature different new musical groups each week.

Zip It and Rip It

Central Florida is fast becoming the ziplining capital of Florida. The first to establish lines in central Florida was the Florida Eco Safari zip in St. Cloud, Florida. This about 30-40 minutes west of Disney. We were pleased with the overall experience here and would recommend it.

There is also the Orlando Zipline which is due south of Gatorland on South Orange Blossom Trail in Kissimmee. This will be a little closer to many vacation home guests than the Eco Safari zip. Finally, there is also the Gatorland zipline, but this is more of an attraction within a park rather than stand alone zip course. We still recommend this course, but it will be much shorter than the other two.

Spring Break at the Beach

What would spring break be without a day at the beach? In a previous post – closest beaches to Orlando – we outlined our favorites. For peoplewatching and a younger audience, we recommend Daytona Beach and Cocoa Beach. These are both within 75 minutes of Orlando. Clearwater Beach (to the southwest) is about 30 minutes further than it takes to get to Daytona.

For families, we recommend New Smyrna and Ormond Beach. These are north of Daytona and tend to be a little quieter and debauchery free. The beaches are very nice and perfect for families.

Honorable mention includes the 2013 Arnold Palmer Invitational PGA golf tournament at Bay Hill, spring training Major League Baseball in several locations, and short day trips from Orlando.
