Orlando Sanford Airport Review

Sanford Airport is located approximately 26 miles north of Downtown Orlando and 49 miles north of the main entrance to the Walt Disney World Resort. This is a much smaller airport than Orlando International Airport (OIA MCO), but open for Orlando airline reservations. Sanford is a convenient alternative for Orlando air travel.

Perhaps the biggest drawback to the Sanford airport is its location relative to the location of many of the vacation homes we write about. For instance, Sanford Fl airport is approximately 50 miles north of Windsor Hills.

However, there are some distinct advantages to the Sanford Orlando Fl airport:

  1. It is very tourist friendly with numerous tour operators offices available and accessible.
  2. It is located close to State Route/Toll 417 which allows for a simple drive to the Disney corridor.
  3. Many of the airlines flying into Sanford can offer more competitive rates, as the landing fees tend to be lower.

The main disadvantage to the Sanford Fl airport is the location. After a long flight, it can be challenging to drive 45 minutes to an hour to arrive at your Orlando vacation home.

So if you are flying to Orlando, consider Sanford as an alternative, especially if it means significant financial savings.

For those not familiar with the area, maps at the airport are readily available. If you are renting a car, we always recommend renting a car with GPS / SAT NAV to take the stress out of driving, especially after a long flight. This drive can be extra stressful to our UK visitors who are used to driving on the left side of the road.
