Fox News Slams Multi-Billion Dollar Vacation Home Segment

In what must be considered a black eye for the industry, this major media outlet featured “vacation rental horrors” on the front page of its online travel portal.  The title of the piece even threw more insult at one of the fastest growing segments of the travel industry: Ever wondered what people get up to when they rent a vacation home? Please click here for the full article.

No real background is given other than to say that they have provided the “worst guest antics” of UK holiday home guests. On several levels, the Fox News piece is a “hatchet job” on a multi-billion dollar industry, and is journalism at its worst. A couple of critical notes:

  • No mention is made of the rapid growth of the vacation rental industry over the last several years. If vacation rentals are so bad, why are millions of families and individuals flocking to this segment?
  • The article makes no attempt at differentiating between owner listed rentals and rentals managed by a professional rental company.
  • The article is written to be as salacious as possible. Heavy emphasis placed on terms such as feces, raw meat, etc… for purposes of shock journalism.
  • The reader is really left with no real compelling reason why this article was even written. It provides no useful purpose nor provides the reader any useful insights. Its superficial storytelling meant to shock the reader.

For a network that purports to be “fair and balanced”, this content falls way short of that standard.

While we don’t challenge the truthfulness of whether many of these vile and disgusting experiences actually occurred, it would have been nice to have pointed out the millions of customers (and growing) that have been very pleased with renting vacation homes.

Orlando Vacation Homes 360 – Setting the Quality Standard

While there is admittedly some risk associated with aspects of the vacation rental segment, the advantages of booking with a professional management company are clear  (see our recent blog post here). For example, OVH 360 personally selects each of the homes in its reservations portfolio to ensure quality. This avoids all  of the experiences mentioned in the Fox News piece. Each of our rental homes are also cleaned to the highest of professional standards.

The bottom line for any consumer is to take the risk out of booking vacation home rentals. The OVH 360 concept, with its dedication to high quality online content, is dedicated to just that plus a quality at home experience and more. We believe every visit to Central Florida should be pleasurable and fun for your whole family. No one should endure the negative conditions mentioned in this Fox News travel article.

Our advice is to stay in an OVH 360 villa to remove the risk associated with booking other types of accommodations and to avoid “vacation rental horrors”.
